After just one season, Netflix has cancelled the comedic series “Blockbuster.”
On November 3, the 10-episode show’s lone season premiered. The programme had a single camera and focused on the staff of the final Blockbuster Video in the globe.
Randall Park, Melissa Fumero, Olga Merediz, Tyler Alvarez, Madeline Arthur, JB Smoove, Kamaia Fairburn, Leonard Robinson, and Keegan Connor Tracy were among the actors that appeared in the series. The show’s creator and executive producer was Vanessa Ramos. In addition, Jackie Clarke and David Caspe worked as executive producers and writers. Through Davis Entertainment, John Davis and John Fox served as executive producers. The studio was called Universal Television.
The series’ termination is not entirely shocking. “Blockbuster” was unable to enter the Netflix Top 10 rankings in the United States during its initial run and in the first week after its initial run. According to Netflix, it only made the top 10 in two nations after its release: Australia and Canada.
It did not receive much support from reviewers however; according to Rotten Tomatoes, just 23% of critics gave the show a favourable review.
For as hard as its cheerful music and competent performers attempt to sell it, “Blockbuster” struggles to land on a funny cadence of its own, according to Caroline Framke’s Variety review. Every character eventually adopts the same self-referential speech pattern, erasing any real personality distinctions. Additionally, the Netflix programme drags out sequences and gags that would have been sharper under a more discriminating eye since it doesn’t undergo the necessary editing that broadcasting on a broadcast network would have required.
