Hancock Beats Gwinn 33-18 For First Victory of Season

HANCOCK — On Friday, there was a steady rain over McAfee Field, but that did not stop the Hancock Bulldogs from playing with a fierce attitude.

The Gwinn Modeltowners were defeated by Hancock by a score of 33-18 to give Hancock its first victory of the 2022 campaign.

It was by far the strongest performance of the year for the Hancock Bulldogs (1-3), according to Hancock head coach Ramon Sague and his coaching staff.

We triumphed in every facet of the game and came out on top. According to what he said, “We played well on both sides of the ball.” “Guys truly stood up and fulfilled the tasks that they were assigned. This featured a much improved offensive drive that was led by our quarterback, Vanden Jacques.

At the 3:16 mark of the first quarter, it was really Jacques who scored for the Bulldogs, which allowed them to get on the scoreboard. They were successful in their effort to kick the extra point after he threw a fantastic ball into the hands of receiver Bryce Hanner. It was 7-0.

The situation would remain the same until almost the middle of the second. Conner Dupras of the Modeltowners, who were 0-4 at the time, made a short rush of 5 yards that resulted in six points at that time. The two-point conversion attempt by them was thwarted by Hancock. It remained 7-6, but with less than two minutes left in the half, the Bulldogs would score twice more, both on runs by Jacques, to put the Bulldogs up 19-6 and send the game into intermission.

Sague said that during the course of the last two of games, “we have taken extremely good care of the football.” “Another instance of it took place tonight.”

“Vanden did an excellent job of directing the offensive play. He made effective use of his legs. Because of this, he is now located indoors. He poses a danger whether he is running or throwing the ball.

The Bulldogs started the third quarter off with a drive that covered 62 yards. It was finished up with a screen throw to Halonen for 48 yards. The successful conversion of two points brought the score to 27-6. However, only a few minutes later, Simon Rajala made it a 33-6 game with a punch over the goal line, which made his coach very happy.

He said that while Simon was a strong runner of the ball, he was also an excellent fullback. “He did an excellent job of clearing lanes for our running backs,” the coach said.

The greatest performance came from Gwinn in the fourth quarter. Conner Dupras, who scored two touchdowns on the ground, was the team’s driving force. However, it was too little, too late for the Modeltowners as they were defeated 33-18 despite their best efforts.

Derek Nyquist, who is the head coach of Gwinn, remarked that Dupras’s performance was definitely a standout moment.

Nyquist said that Conner’s performance was quite good. He was a solid performer on both offence and defence.

He continued by saying, “Although we had a terrific finish in the four, we were sloppy in the beginning of the game, and we lost our momentum.”

This coming Friday, the Hancock Hornets will host the 69th annual Copper Bowl game versus the Houghton Gremlins at their home stadium.

LL-H 44, Stephenson 14
