A few months after the actress from Triangle of Sadness passed away, Charlbi Dean’s cause of death was made public. She was 32.
Previously, her representative informed The Hollywood Reporter that Dean passed away in August at a hospital in New York City as a result of an unanticipated medical illness.
The singer and model passed away from bacterial sepsis, a representative for the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner revealed to THR on Thursday. According to the spokesman, the sepsis was brought on by “distant blunt force trauma to [her] torso,” which “complicated asplenia,” or the lack of a spleen.
Dean’s death was determined to be an accident.
The medical examiner concluded that she contracted Capnocytophaga, which is a bacterium that may cause bacterial sepsis. The bacterium is often present in the mouths of people, dogs, and cats, but can also result in an illness under specific circumstances, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. What caused Dean’s illness is still unknown at this day.
The South African actress, whose real name is Charlbi Dean Kriek and who was born in Cape Town, started modelling at the age of 14 before switching to acting in 2010, when she appeared in the movie Spud. Ruben Stlund’s Triangle of Sadness, which won the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and is up for two Golden Globes, was her most recent project.
After her passing, Stlund posted a message on Instagram saying, “It is an honour to have gotten to know and work with her.” “Charlbi had a tenderness and consideration for others that inspired her coworkers and the entire film team. I’m terribly saddened by the prospect of her leaving our side in the future.
