After a Week of Multiplatform Viewing, the Season 2 Premiere of “Abbott Elementary” Sees a Quadrupling in Ratings (EXCLUSIVE)

The Season 2 debut of “Abbott Elementary” saw a significant increase in ratings after a week of delayed watching on Hulu, DVRs, and other platforms.

After the episode’s Sept. 21 debut, Live + Same Day data indicated a 0.6 rating among adults 18-49; however, after seven days of multiplatform watching, that number has increased by 318% to a crucial demo rating of 2.38. Additionally, this was the largest-ever delayed viewing lift for the series in terms of overall viewers, who increased from 2.9 million on the day of the debut to 7 million after one week.

“Abbott Elementary” was able to maintain its ratings from the Season 1 finale, which aired on ABC back in April and attracted an even 0.6 rating and 2.8 million total viewers. The initial 18-49 rating and total viewership tally of Season 2 Episode 1, titled “Development Day,” allowed “Abbott Elementary” to maintain these figures. After a week of multiplatform watching, the Season 1 finale, which Variety exclusively revealed, grew to a 1.8 rating and 5.9 million total viewers – an astounding record that the show has since surpassed. As a result, it seems like the series’ audience is expanding, especially among those who watch it on streaming, following its favourable first season and significant Emmys attention. As part of ABC’s Wednesday night primetime programming, “Abbott Elementary” airs in the coveted 9 p.m. time slot formerly held by “Modern Family.” “The Conners,” “The Goldbergs,” “Home Economics,” and “Big Sky: Deadly Trails” are all on that programme.

Season 5 of “The Conners” debuted on September 21 at 8 p.m. with 3.7 million total viewers and a 0.53 rating in the 18-49 demographic. After one week, those numbers increased to 5.7 million and a 1.05 rating. The Season 5 debut of “The Goldbergs,” which aired at 8:30 p.m., increased from a 0.6 to a 0.87 in the 18-49 demographic and from 2.5 million to 3.9 million viewers overall. Season 3 of “Home Economics” premiered at 9:30 p.m. with a 0.6 rating among adults 18-49 and 3 million total viewers. After one week, the show had a 0.79 rating and 3.5 million total viewers. The Season 3 premiere of “Big Sky: Deadly Trails,” which wrapped out the primetime schedule at 10 p.m., had a significant increase in viewers from 0.26 and 2.3 million to 0.87 and 5.9 million.
